JOB TITLE: Exhibitions Coordinator

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt; Part-time or Full-time (30-40 hours weekly); Hourly
RATE OF PAY: $28 to $32 per hour DOE

The Whatcom Museum, located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, in the heart of Bellingham’s downtown Arts District, is currently accepting applications for a Exhibitions Coordinator. We are an American Alliance of Museums (AAM) accredited museum and a Smithsonian Affiliate with a focus on Art, Natural History, and Pacific Northwest History with a campus of three buildings, including the historic Old City Hall, the Leed Certified Lightcatcher Building, and the Old Fire Station #1. The Whatcom Museum Foundation is a non-profit organization entrusted with operating the Whatcom Museum and caring for the collection which contains more than 200,000 artifacts and art works of regional importance, including a vast photographic archive. The Whatcom Museum offers a variety of exhibitions, programs, tours and activities about art, nature, and Northwest history for all ages.

The Exhibition Coordinator is responsible for coordinating multiple projects within the Exhibitions Department. An integral part of the Exhibitions team, they will facilitate administrative aspects of the installations and exhibitions in collaboration with the team to create and implement dynamic and frequently rotated exhibitions and installations. The duties of this position are complex in nature, and the qualified individual will be professional in all communications and actions, engaged and collaborative, proactive and highly organized, and a confident problem solver. The job requires a mix of high energy and ability to balance multiple tasks, as well as, considerable diplomacy, and discretion in the handling of sensitive information.

The ideal candidate will have a combination of related education and demonstrated experience totaling a minimum of six years, meaning a bachelor’s degree and two years of experience OR an associate degree and four years of experience OR a high school diploma (or equivalent) and six years of experience. Job requirements include excellent project management skills with the ability to handle simultaneus projects and produce quality results on schedule while maintaining attention to detail.
