The Whatcom Museum, located in the heart of the beautiful Pacific Northwest, is currently accepting applications for an Exhibition Preparator/Audio-Visual Technician. We are a multi-discipline, accredited Museum, with a focus on Art, Natural History, and Pacific Northwest History. This full-time position works directly with the museum Director of Exhibitions and with Curator(s) to install and maintain permanent and temporary museum exhibitions both onsite and off. This position will also develop, install, and maintain exhibition audio-visual installations. Additionally, this position will design, fabricate, and install artifact mounts, assist with custom-sized vitrines and pedestals, and design and fabricate interactive components for use throughout the museum campus.
Skills required include:
• Proficiency in audio and video editing software, and with recording and videotaping equipment.
• Professional level knowledge of two- and three-dimensional design concepts, graphic design and layout, and related procedures – including experience in design and fabrication of artifact mounts, acrylic vitrines, and interactive prototypes.
• Knowledge of methods and materials used in exhibition installation including lighting, finish carpentry, and use of hand and power tools; working knowledge of art, artifact care and handling, and proper installation methods.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of three years, full time, responsible experience with museum exhibits, and experience in all facets of museum exhibition fabrication. This should include audio-visual experience in recording, editing, installation, and maintenance; along with the design and fabrication of interactives.
