The Museum Education Specialist is charged with managing school programs, adult education programs, and educational programs for visitors of the museum. This role focuses on program development, conceptualization, design, scheduling, delivery, and evaluation, and supervision of program day-to-day activities. As an educational institution, these activities directly support the mission of the Society in partnering with community organizations to develop educational programming that is appropriate for our audiences.

Duties
Develop and implement educational programs for pre-K to 12th grade students and teachers:

Develop educational programs that demonstrate current museum best practices while also supporting student attainment of federal, state, and local educational standards (including Common Core and C3 standards)
Develop programmatic learning and experiential outcomes for educational programs by identifying target audiences and evaluating the success of implemented programs
Manage student field trip programs including development of promotional materials, maintaining supplies, overseeing scheduling of groups, and orienting groups when on site
Research and develop supporting materials for educational programs
Promote the Society’s educational programs through outreach to teachers, participation at conferences, and additional outreach opportunities
Develop and implement educational programs for adults:
In partnership with the Lead Programs Manager and Director of Audience Engagement, develop and implement an adult learning strategy that aligns with current best practices and advances the Society’s strategic plan
Develop, design, present and/or contract with others to present new and innovative museum education experiences to engage established audiences and build new audiences
Support and collaboratively develop revenue-generating adult programs and special events that incorporate educational experiences
Initiate and maintain local, regional and statewide collaborations and partnerships that support WSHS programming and raise the profile of WSHS in the community
Develop seasonal and specialized programs for youth, adults and families:
Develop, present, and/or coordinate seasonal and specialized programs such as summer camps, family workshops, gallery tours, or off-site programs
Support the development of digital resources
Work collaboratively with other team members to meet administrative needs and advance the work of the Society:
Work with other museum staff to promote the museum’s programs, events, and exhibitions
Develop and manage budgets for educational programs
Assist the Development Department with program specific fundraising initiatives
Participate in cross-functional teams, projects, and initiatives
Qualifications
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Museum Studies, History, or other related field
1-2 years in an informal learning environment or classroom teaching experience
Minimum two (2) years of experience in museum education and/or related field
Strong working knowledge of museum education standards, theories, and practices, along with Pre-K through high school learning and teaching strategies (pedagogy and theory), curriculum, and standards
Well-honed project management, program evaluation, and organizational skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as customer service skills
Ability to read, understand, and complete written and verbal requests and work assignments
Capable of balancing strategic thinking and planning with ongoing program implementation and day-to-day administrative duties
Ability to work collaboratively and proactively with diverse colleagues, collaborators and audiences, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds
Dependability, flexibility, and adaptability in a dynamic event-driven environment
Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point)
Ability to successfully handle several projects simultaneously and meet multiple deadlines
