Free & low cost trainings through the Secretary of State

Free and low cost trainings aimed to improve Washington’s nonprofits are now available statewide, thanks to a partnership between the Secretary of State’s office and Washington Nonprofits.  Workshops, webinars, and conference calls are available over the next few months to connect you to practical expertise on topics important  to organizations of any size or budget.  Some topics you can learn more about include board roles & duties, reading financials, and how to get your board excited about fundraising.  Check out the calendar of trainings and register through their website at washingtonnonprofits.org.

Heritage Caucus welcomes Rep. Steve Tharinger!

This year we welcome Rep. Steve Tharinger of District 23 as a new Heritage Caucus co-chair.  He joins long-time caucus co-chair Sen. Jim Honeyford, of District 15,  in 2016 for the second half of the Washington State Legislature’s biennium.  Ask your district legislators to attend!

Heritage Capital Projects Fund

The Heritage Capital Projects Fund is administered by the Washington State Historical Society.  The HCPF provides state funding for heritage building projects such as new facilities, renovations of existing ones, and maintenance of historic structures.  The Fund is enshrined in state law but each year risks not being funded.  The practical dilemma of this is that organizations that navigate the complex, peer-vetted application process for the HCPF can be awarded a grant and still not receive funding if the combination of the Governor and Legislature do not allocate the amounts of the awarded in the capital budget of […]
