The Controller’s primary focus is fulfilling the fiduciary responsibility for all financial aspects of the Museum Foundation – and as such, will work closely with the Boards of Trustees of the Whatcom Museum Foundation, the Executive Director, and senior staff. Because we are a small organization, this position directly handles all accounting functions – including (but not limited to) processing Accounts Payable, Cash Receipts, Payroll using ADP, and General Ledger work; plus all related tax obligations and reporting.

This position also manages the complete monthly financial statement preparation and presentation – plus working with an outside accounting firm on the annual audit of the Financial Statements and preparation of the IRS form 990. Budgeting and analysis are also crucial functions covered by this position.

Qualified applicants should have exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to be self-directing and to work with minimal supervision. Proficiency with Excel and familiarity with accounting software packages are an absolute must. Applicants should also have experience managing technology and information systems to enable effective operations.

Applicants are preferred with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related areas. A minimum of five years of relevant and progressively responsible experience in accounting and finance is desired – but a combination of experience and training that provides the applicant with the knowledge and skills to perform the job will be considered.

An excellent full benefits package is offered – including an annual four weeks Paid-Time-Off (PTO) and twelve paid holidays, Medical and Dental insurance, and a SIMPLE IRA retirement plan.

If you are qualified and are interested in making a difference for art and history in our community, we want you on our dynamic Whatcom Museum team!
