If you enjoy meeting people and talking about our amazing Washington coast, we want you! We are looking for someone who is energetic, outgoing, friendly, and welcoming to fill a part time docent position. The bulk of the hours will be during the summer season (Memorial Day to Labor Day), but will be permanent throughout the year albeit with fewer hours during the winter season.

General Responsibilities

Greet visitors and provide information on the Center; accurately interpret Center exhibits as they relate to coastal ecology and history.
Prepare Damon’s Outpost for daily retail business; at close of business, balance the daily revenue receipts and secure funds in the Center safe.
Functions as the team leader with volunteers, assigning the volunteers to meet visitors in the various rooms of the Center and other duties as needed for a smooth daily operation.
Assists with volunteer coverage by calling volunteers when there are no shows or extra help is needed
Maintain daily visitor contact record.
Assist with the preparation and upkeep of interpretive exhibits and displays.
Provide support for Board committees e.g. volunteer, education, facility & grounds management (committees may vary dependent on need).
Assist with CIC participation in special events.
Maintain public relations with visitors, community, and cooperating entities.
Assist with oversight of day-to-day Center operations. This includes ensuring Center facility and grounds are clean and organized, and maintenance needs are identified.
Participate in meetings and training scheduled for Center staff.
Additional duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Effective written and oral communication skills.

Ability to serve effectively as a team member; with good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact appropriately with volunteers, staff, and visitors at all levels.
Possess valid driver’s license.
Ability to pass Washington State Patrol background check.

Desired Qualifications

In-depth knowledge of the ecology and history of the coastal environment as it relates to the exhibits, programs, and activities of the Center.
Basic technology skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs and Outlook.
Basic skills to implement print and social media strategies for education.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.
